Margot Seay first became interested in aging issues, particularly expanding long-term care choices for Tennesseans, while working in the First Tennessee District Ombudsman Program and also caring for her aging mother. This led to her involvement and eventual presidency of AARP Tennessee. Through the AARP Enhanced Community Program and AARP Tennessee, Margot helped coordinate the development of an AARP survey, A Livable Community Survey of Greater Kingsport, TN Area: A Place to Live Work and Play for a Lifetime, coauthored by Dr. Kathleen Beine. In partnership with AARP, sustainable programs were developed locally, including the Harvest of Hope Community Garden, SeniorConnectKpt.org, Feed Kingsport and the Hunger Task Force. Margot also served as the National Volunteer Director of AARP, where she helped elevate the voice and work of AARP volunteers throughout the United States. Her community board service has included: First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability, Healthy Kingsport Leadership, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee. She actively supports the work of Kingsport’s United Way Aging with Choices Vision Council, Hunger Task Force, Neighborhood Commission, and Homeless Commission.
Margot and her husband, Bunky, have two children and four grandchildren.
